Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TMPV), a subsidiary of Tata Motors and one of India’s largest automotive manufacturers, has re-entered the South African passenger vehicle market with the launch of four dynamic models: the Harrier, Curvv, Punch, and Tiago. The unveiling took place at The Galleria in Sandton, Johannesburg, marking a new chapter in Tata’s global expansion journey.
This strategic re-entry is backed by a strong partnership with Motus Holdings, South Africa’s leading automotive group. The collaboration promises to deliver a superior ownership experience through nationwide distribution, aftersales support, and innovative financing solutions.
TMPV’s return comes at a time of robust growth in India, where sales have surged from 170,000 units in 2020 to over 560,000 units in 2025 — a 350% increase. The company is recognized as a pioneer in automotive safety, with all its models rated 4 or 5 stars by Global NCAP and Bharat NCAP.
At the launch, Mr. Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, said:
“Our return to South Africa marks a significant milestone in Tata Motors’ global journey. We are excited to bring new-generation vehicles—engineered with cutting-edge technology, uncompromising safety, and modern design—to a market that values quality and innovation. With Motus as our preferred partner, we are confident of delivering an ownership experience that resonates with South African consumers and contributes to the local economy.”

At launch, Tata will operate through 40 dealerships across South Africa, with plans to expand to 60 by 2026, ensuring widespread accessibility and support. Beyond sales, TMPV will invest in skills development, job creation, and technician training, reinforcing its commitment to the local economy.
