Jupiter Wagons Ltd (JWL), widely known for its engineering excellence in the rail sector, is aggressively entering India’s electric vehicle (EV) market through its EV subsidiary, Jupiter Electric Mobility (JEM). The company is focusing on the last- and mid-mile commercial vehicle segment with the rollout of its flagship e-LCV, Jupiter Tez, and the inauguration of a new dedicated EV manufacturing plant in Indore.

Jupiter Tez: A Game Changer in Urban Freight Mobility

Designed to cater to urban and intra-city logistics, the Jupiter Tez e-LCV boasts:

  • Real-world range of 190 km on a full charge
  • Fast charging: 100 km charge in just 60 minutes via CCS2
  • Liquid-cooled LFP battery with 30 kWh capacity
  • Motor output of 80 kW and 265 Nm torque
  • 7-year/2,00,000 km battery warranty, one of the best in its category

JWL has integrated Japanese motors and high-efficiency LFP batteries to power Tez, ensuring thermal safety and longer operational life. The vehicle is built on a chassis and cabin design acquired in 2022, forming the technological backbone of the company’s EV ambitions.

Indore Plant Launch and Production Scale-Up

In March 2025, the company inaugurated its 5-acre EV manufacturing facility in Indore, equipped with:

  • Automatic conveyor lines for chassis and cabin assembly
  • Robotic welding stations designed specifically for electric vehicle production
  • An annual production capacity exceeding 8,000 e-LCVs

This manufacturing push aligns with JWL’s strategy to offer indigenously developed, cost-efficient, and durable electric vehicles tailored for Indian logistics operators.

Future EV Roadmap

The Jupiter Tez lineup is set to diversify over the next year:

  • September 2025: Launch of reefer variant for cold-chain logistics
  • November 2025: Launch of D+9 passenger variant for school and feeder services
  • March 2026: Launch of 1.7 Ton and 3 Ton variants, targeting both last- and mid-mile segments

Intelligent Safety with TADS

Tez comes equipped with the Tez Abuse Detection System (TADS)—a patented onboard intelligence system that monitors:

  • Driver behavior and identity
  • Crash events, harsh braking, potholes, and payload abuse
  • Cloud-based data analytics for fleet managers

This system aims to reduce fleet downtimes and ensure long-term vehicle health.

With its dedicated EV division, strategic plant investments, and a clear multi-variant roadmap, Jupiter Wagons Ltd. is positioning itself as a serious contender in India’s electric commercial vehicle segment. The Jupiter Tez could become a reliable workhorse for India’s logistics future robust, intelligent, and made in India.
