General Motors (GM) has emerged as the top-selling electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer in Canada for the first half of 2025, backed by its expanding lineup of EVs under the Chevrolet, Cadillac, and GMC brands. The automaker’s EV market share soared to 23.2% in Q2 2025, up from 8.1% a year earlier, marking a threefold increase and catapulting GM from sixth to first place in Canadian EV sales.
This achievement marks GM’s third consecutive quarter leading the Canadian EV segment and solidifies its position as a front-runner in the country’s shift toward sustainable mobility.
For the past two years, GM has led the Canadian auto industry in total sales, and now that leadership includes EVs,” said Shane Peever, Vice President of Sales, Service and Marketing at GM Canada. “With 13 EVs across Chevrolet, GMC and Cadillac, we’re offering Canadians more choice than ever, and that’s bringing new customers into the GM family.
Q2 2025 Highlights:
- Chevrolet Equinox EV, priced under $49,000, ranked #2 in the compact all-electric SUV segment, driven by affordability and family-friendly features.
- Cadillac captured 30.5% of the luxury EV market, with the Cadillac OPTIQ emerging as the most-registered luxury EV in Canada through June 2025.
- Over 60% of GM EV buyers were new to the Chevrolet, GMC, or Cadillac brands — reflecting strong conquest sales and growing consumer trust in GM’s electrification strategy.
