Tesla officially opened its first Indian showroom on July 15, 2025, at the prestigious Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) in Mumbai. The new Tesla Experience Centre features a striking white-themed interior that blends the company’s trademark minimalist design with curated Indian visual elements, symbolizing a fusion of global innovation and local cultural aesthetics.

The showroom design includes illuminated lightboxes showcasing Tesla’s global innovations alongside subtle Indian imagery, creating an immersive brand experience. The entire space was completed in just 45 days, underscoring Tesla’s commitment to quickly scaling its presence in India.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who inaugurated the centre, hailed Tesla’s arrival as a significant development for the state and the country’s clean mobility ambitions. “Tesla’s presence in Mumbai makes a strong statement. It’s not just the right city but also the right state for their India journey,” he said. He also emphasized Maharashtra’s leadership in electric mobility and policy, making it an attractive destination for future manufacturing prospects.

Fadnavis confirmed that Tesla is not only launching its Model Y in India but is also setting up four major charging stations and establishing its logistics and service ecosystem in Maharashtra.

Although Tesla has yet to disclose manufacturing plans in India, recent policy shifts—including a reduction in import duties—could make localized production more viable. The company’s hiring drive earlier this year and infrastructure developments indicate Tesla is accelerating its engagement with India’s electric vehicle market.
