In a strategic leap into the electric vehicle (EV) segment, Jindal Mobilitric, a subsidiary of Jindal Worldwide Limited (JWL), has unveiled its latest electric two-wheeler, the R40, boasting an industry-leading range of 165 kilometers on a single charge.
The R40 has been submitted for homologation and is expected to hit the market soon through the company’s existing network of 35 dealers. Jindal Mobilitric has announced plans to aggressively scale up its dealership network to 100 across India within the next year.
A spokesperson for Jindal Worldwide described the launch as a “significant milestone,” emphasizing the company’s long-term commitment to the EV sector. “Electric mobility is the future of transportation, and our foray into EV production is a strategic and significant milestone for us. The research and development of the EV has been done in-house, and we are excited about its launch,” the spokesperson said.
The company has established a state-of-the-art EV manufacturing plant in Ahmedabad with an annual production capacity of 2.5 lakh vehicles. In addition, it has set up a fully automated, in-house battery manufacturing plant with a similar capacity. This move is aimed at ensuring stringent battery safety standards and bolstering consumer confidence in EV adoption across India.
With its latest venture into green mobility, Jindal Worldwide is stepping beyond its core textile business, where it is globally known as one of the largest denim fabric manufacturers. The diversification marks a new chapter in the company’s growth strategy, tapping into India’s booming EV market.
