Suzuki Motor Corporation has announced an additional investment in Japanese eVTOL (electric vertical take-off and landing) startup SkyDrive Inc., signaling a stronger commitment to advancing next-generation mobility solutions, including the development and commercialization of flying cars.
The investment was made through a third-party allocation of shares and marks a deepening of the strategic partnership between Suzuki and SkyDrive, originally formed in March 2022. The collaboration focuses on exploring overseas markets, particularly India, which has emerged as a key target for early adoption of urban air mobility.
The renewed investment comes on the heels of a major milestone for SkyDrive—its January 2025 agreement with JetSetGo, one of India’s largest private jet operators, to pre-order 50 units of its flagship flying car model, “SKYDRIVE.” The deal highlights growing confidence in eVTOL technology and paves the way for the deployment of aerial mobility solutions in India’s fast-evolving transport landscape.
Adding to the momentum, SkyDrive successfully showcased the first public flight of the SKYDRIVE at the Expo 2025 media day in Osaka on April 9. Additional demonstration flights are scheduled for summer 2025, further validating the vehicle’s performance, safety, and commercial readiness.
With this enhanced investment, Suzuki aims to intensify both business and technological collaboration with SkyDrive, contributing not only capital but also engineering support and overseas market access. The initiative aligns with Suzuki’s long-term vision of sustainable mobility and reflects its growing interest in the urban air mobility (UAM) space.
In a joint statement, representatives from both companies reiterated their shared mission to bring safe, efficient, and environmentally friendly flying cars into real-world use—ushering in a new era of personal and urban transportation.
The partnership between Suzuki and SkyDrive stands as a testament to Japan’s innovation leadership in advanced mobility technologies and highlights India’s rising prominence as a testbed for futuristic transport solutions.
