Electrical measurement technology leader LEM has announced the launch of its latest innovation in direct current (DC) energy metering: the DCES600 and DCES1500. These advanced meters are designed to meet the growing demands of the electric vehicle (EV) charging industry, particularly in fast and megawatt-class charging applications such as electric trucks, buses, and fleet infrastructure.
Built on LEM’s extensive experience in electrical measurement, metrology, and energy metering, the DCES series delivers class B accuracy up to 1500A over wide temperature ranges (–40°C to +85°C) without derating—making them ideal for harsh, high-performance environments.
“With these new meters, we are enabling manufacturers to significantly reduce development time while meeting strict legal metrology requirements for kWh billing,” said a LEM spokesperson.
Key Features and Benefits:
- High Accuracy Across Full Current Range: Accurate measurement from peak to end-of-cycle currents improves billing precision and energy tracking in EV charging—critical for commercial transport applications where every kilowatt counts.
- Cybersecure RS485 Interface: Enables authenticated data exchange, remote maintenance, and secure firmware updates—helping reduce operational costs for charging station operators.
- Flexible Remote Display Unit (RDU): Offers modular HMI design options with easy installation (DIN rail, panel, or base plate) and no need for additional wiring beyond the DCES connection.
- Rugged and Scalable Design: Glass-fiber reinforced casing and large current terminals (up to 1500V DC and 1500A) ensure safe, reliable performance for demanding charging environments.
Applications:
- DC Fast Charging Stations: The DCES600 provides fast, accurate metering for public and commercial charging hubs.
- Megawatt-Class Charging: The DCES1500 supports heavy-duty vehicle charging in high-power applications, including freight transport and long-haul EVs.
- Fleet Charging Depots: Precise energy monitoring helps operators manage costs and comply with energy regulations.
- OEM Integration: Designed with modularity and developer-friendly APIs, DCES meters fit seamlessly into customized OEM energy systems, including battery storage and industrial DC networks.
Regulatory Readiness & Availability
LEM is currently pursuing certification for the DCES series, with full compliance expected by the end of 2025. The meters will meet the European Union’s MID 2014/32/EU Directive and Germany’s Eichrecht calibration law, enabling legal-for-trade billing for EV charging in regulated markets.
