MHI Opens Applications For New Scheme To Boost Electric Passenger Car Manufacturing In India

The Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) has officially launched a new scheme aimed at promoting the manufacturing of electric passenger cars in India. The scheme, known as SPMEPCI, is part of the government’s effort to boost the electric vehicle ecosystem and strengthen domestic manufacturing in the country. The official notification for the scheme was issued on March 15, 2024, while the detailed guidelines were released later on June 2, 2025. Both the notification and the guidelines can be accessed on the official website of the Ministry of Heavy Industries.

Eligible applicants can now apply for the scheme through the dedicated online portal at spmepci.heavyindustries.gov.in. The application process began on June 24, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. and will remain open until October 21, 2025, up to 6:00 p.m. Along with the online submission, applicants are also required to submit a hard copy of the completed application, including all annexures, to the Director, Ministry of Heavy Industries. The physical documents must be delivered to Room No. 218, Udyog Bhawan, Rafi Marg, New Delhi – 110001, by 6:00 p.m. on the closing date.

Applicants are advised to carefully read the scheme notification and guidelines to ensure they meet the eligibility criteria before applying. It is important to note that the application fee is non-refundable, making it essential for interested parties to thoroughly review all instructions and documents prior to submission. This scheme is expected to encourage investment in electric vehicle manufacturing and support India’s move towards a cleaner and more sustainable transportation future.
