In a landmark achievement for automotive safety, Hyundai Motor Group has once again solidified its position as a global leader in vehicle safety performance, securing the highest number of models awarded in the 2025 Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) crash test evaluations.

Across its three key brands—Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis—the Group earned a total of 15 IIHS Top Safety Pick (TSP) or Top Safety Pick+ (TSP+) ratings, marking the second consecutive year it has received the most safety accolades from the prestigious U.S. nonprofit safety watchdog.

Leading the Industry in Safety Innovation

Among the Group’s award-winning models are newly upgraded entries such as the 2025 Hyundai ELANTRA and SONATA, as well as the 2025 Kia K4—all receiving the top-tier TSP+ rating. These additions join a lineup of high-performing models like the Hyundai IONIQ 5, IONIQ 6, KONA, TUCSON, SANTA FE, Genesis GV60, GV70, Electrified GV70, GV80, and Kia EV9 and Telluride. The Genesis G90 secured a TSP rating.

This recognition is especially significant as the IIHS introduced stricter criteria for 2025, including a new emphasis on second-row occupant protection. The updated moderate overlap front crash test now includes dummies representing 12-year-old children or small females in the rear seats to better assess passenger safety.

Meeting the Toughest Standards

To qualify for a 2025 TSP+ rating, vehicles must:

  • Earn a “good” rating in the updated moderate overlap front crash test
  • Score “good” in small overlap front and updated side impact tests
  • Receive at least an “acceptable” rating in both daytime and nighttime pedestrian crash prevention tests
  • Be equipped across all trims with “acceptable” or better-rated headlights

These tougher benchmarks reflect the IIHS’s continued push to reduce real-world injuries and fatalities, making Hyundai Motor Group’s accomplishment all the more noteworthy.

A Benchmark for Consumer Trust

“The IIHS ratings are among the most trusted safety evaluations in the auto industry,” said a Group spokesperson. “Our dominance in these awards reaffirms our commitment to innovation and passenger protection.”

The Hyundai Motor Group’s achievement in 2025 will serve as a compelling factor for safety-conscious consumers and sets a high bar for competitors worldwide.
