At EVS38, three powerhouses of the electric mobility sector—Gireve, Hubject, and Irdeto—announced a groundbreaking Plug & Charge Interoperability Partnership poised to transform the global EV charging experience. This alliance marks a pivotal milestone in breaking down one of the biggest barriers to mass EV adoption: fragmented and inaccessible charging systems.

Through this strategic partnership, the three companies aim to expand seamless Plug & Charge access to more than 4 million EVs worldwide, leveraging their existing API integrations to deliver instant interoperability across vast networks—particularly in Europe and North America.

Driving Seamless, Secure Charging Across Borders

With Plug & Charge technology becoming an industry standard—backed by regulatory frameworks like ISO 15118—the need for cross-platform compatibility and operational efficiency has never been greater. This collaboration enables Charge Point Operators (CPOs), eMobility Service Providers (EMPs), and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to integrate more easily into multiple ecosystems, bypassing the risk of vendor lock-in and significantly lowering operational complexity.

Together, we’re building the foundation for a charging ecosystem that works seamlessly for everyone,” said Christian Hahn, CEO of Hubject. “This partnership demonstrates how we can expand access while upholding the highest standards of security and interoperability.

Eric Plaquet, CEO of Gireve, emphasized the need for collective progress: “This is a first step in our joint efforts. The Plug & Charge industry needs a fair, open market to scale up efficiently—and that will only happen through collaboration.

Niels Haverkorn, SVP at Irdeto, highlighted the role of cybersecurity and trust: “True EV adoption hinges on interoperability and trust. Our partnership delivers both.

Immediate Impact, Long-Term Vision

The first phase of the partnership focuses on leveraging existing API infrastructure for instant deployment—removing delays typically associated with technical development. As of now, customers can immediately benefit from expanded Plug & Charge accessibility across the networks of all three companies.

Future phases will incorporate market feedback and technical advancements to enhance the sustainability, scalability, and interoperability of the solution. All partners are also committed to advancing the OPNC (Open Plug & Charge) protocol and contributing to broader standardization efforts.

Accelerating EV Adoption Through Collaboration

The Gireve–Hubject–Irdeto partnership showcases a new industry dynamic where collaboration trumps competition. Rather than creating siloed systems, these leaders are setting a precedent for customer-first innovation, unified ecosystems, and industry-wide progress.

By expanding Plug & Charge capabilities across regions and platforms, the alliance enhances:

  • Customer Experience: Enabling seamless, app-free, and secure charging across service providers.
  • Operational Efficiency: Eliminating redundant integrations for CPOs and EMPs.
  • Market Growth: Accelerating mainstream EV adoption through confidence in reliable charging infrastructure.

As the EV landscape matures, this partnership is not just a response to today’s needs—it is a blueprint for a connected, secure, and user-centric future of electric mobility.
