Circle K has officially opened its first electric vehicle (EV) charging-only location in Europe, marking a major milestone in its global transition to electric mobility. The new site, located in Gårda, near central Gothenburg, Sweden, features ten ultra-fast 400 kW chargers and a 100 m² (1,076 ft²) convenience store, making it the largest EV charging-only site in the company’s international network.
Strategically situated near the E6 motorway—a major transportation corridor with over 100,000 vehicles passing daily—the Gårda site is designed to provide a premium charging experience for EV drivers. The chargers can power a vehicle from 0 to 80% in approximately 15 minutes, allowing drivers to recharge quickly while enjoying the store’s offerings.
The convenience store offers a full retail experience, including fresh pizza, kebabs, award-winning sausages, Wi-Fi, and ample seating, creating a comfortable and inviting space for travelers and locals alike.
Hans-Olav Høidahl, EVP of European Operations and Global eMobility at Circle K, highlighted the significance of the launch: “Our new location at Gårda marks a significant step in our ambition to win the EV customer—offering easy and convenient charging with a complete retail experience. With ultra-fast chargers, great food and beverage options, Wi-Fi, and ample seating, the site has been designed to meet our customers’ needs. It’s a safe harbor on the road, and a clear step forward in our ambition to be the preferred on-the-go charging destination across Europe.”
The Gårda opening comes shortly after the launch of Circle K’s largest EV charging hub in Järna, Sweden, underscoring the company’s aggressive expansion into the EV market. Circle K’s European network now includes over 3,000 branded EV chargers, with continued rapid growth planned to meet the increasing demand for electric vehicle infrastructure.
