Marking a revolutionary step in the electrification of heavy transport, Volvo Trucks has revealed its flagship long-distance electric truck, the Volvo FH Aero Electric. With a driving range of up to 600 kilometers and a superfast charging time of just 40 minutes, the truck is set to redefine the future of long-haul freight.

The official launch and order intake for the FH Aero Electric with e-axle are scheduled for the second quarter of 2026. However, Volvo has already released images and technical specifications, and potential buyers can now sign a letter of intent to purchase the vehicle.

A Breakthrough in Long-Haul Electrification

Designed specifically for long-distance transport—a sector responsible for a significant share of truck-related CO₂ emissions—the FH Aero Electric represents a major milestone in sustainable mobility.

“This is a real breakthrough in zero-emission transport,” said Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks. “Now, transport companies can operate really long distances with electric trucks without compromising productivity.”

Fast Charging, High Efficiency

Equipped with the new Megawatt Charging System (MCS), the truck can charge from 20% to 80% in approximately 40 minutes—a duration that aligns with the mandatory rest period for truck drivers under EU law. This innovation ensures minimal downtime and maximum operational efficiency.

Robust Payload and Range

The new FH Aero Electric is capable of carrying up to 48 tonnes total weight, nearly matching diesel trucks in payload capacity. This is made possible by a 6×2 axle configuration that allows for more onboard batteries and improved weight distribution.

At the heart of the truck is Volvo’s new e-axle driveline technology, which frees up space for additional batteries. The FH Aero Electric can accommodate eight batteries, offering a total of 780 kWh of installed capacity—enabling its impressive 600 km range.

Full-Service Ecosystem

Beyond just the vehicle, Volvo Trucks is offering a comprehensive solution for customers transitioning to electric fleets. This includes:

Route analysis for electrification potential

Charging infrastructure support (on-road and at depots)

Fleet performance tracking and optimization

“We have more than five years of experience helping customers transition to electric,” Alm noted. “Volvo Trucks is the go-to company for transport firms ready to decarbonize.”

A Leader in Electric Trucking

With over 5,000 electric trucks delivered across 50 countries and eight electric models in its lineup, Volvo Trucks is already a frontrunner in medium and heavy-duty electric transport. The new FH Aero Electric cements Volvo’s leadership, now extending its electrification prowess to long-haul logistics.

Path to Net-Zero

Volvo Trucks is pursuing a three-path strategy to reach net-zero emissions by 2040, combining:

  • Battery electric vehicles
  • Fuel cell electric trucks
  • Renewable-fuel combustion engines, using biodiesel, HVO, green hydrogen, and biogas

As global pressure mounts to decarbonize transport, Volvo’s new electric flagship could be the catalyst the logistics industry has been waiting for.
