Audi has reached a significant production milestone with nearly ten million C-series vehicles manufactured since 1968. To celebrate, the company has introduced the ninth generation of the series — the all-new Audi A6 Avant — now available at dealerships across Europe as of May 16. The A6 Sedan will follow, with its market launch scheduled for the end of July.
Built on the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC), the new A6 Avant combines dynamic performance, improved efficiency, and cutting-edge digital features. It is powered by modern gasoline and diesel engines supported by mild hybrid technology (MHEV plus), which enhances driving comfort and reduces CO2 emissions. The adaptive air suspension and all-wheel steering system ensure both agility and ride comfort, whether in urban traffic or on long journeys. Both the Avant and Sedan models will also be available as plug-in hybrids.
With the ninth generation produced in Neckarsulm, Audi continues the legacy of the C-series, which began in 1968 with the launch of the Audi 100. The early generations (C1 to C4) earned numerous awards including five Golden Steering Wheels, two Car of the Year titles, and one World Car of the Year. Over 3.2 million Audi 100 units were sold before the model was rebranded as the Audi A6 in 1994. Since then, the C-series has stood for innovation, introducing key technologies such as fully galvanized bodies, aerodynamic optimization, and efficient powertrains.
As of April 2025, Audi has built exactly 9,836,762 C-series vehicles, reflecting more than five decades of success and continuous advancement.
To mark the launch of the new C9 generation, eight Audi employees gathered at the company’s Ingolstadt headquarters with their own C-series models — one from each previous generation — for a commemorative photo in front of the Audi museum mobile, welcoming the latest addition to the iconic family.
