In a major boost to Australia’s transition toward sustainable freight transport, Linfox — a leading international logistics provider headquartered in Australia — has placed the largest order of battery-electric trucks in the country’s history, securing 30 heavy-duty electric trucks from Volvo Trucks.

The milestone deal marks a pivotal moment in Volvo’s commitment to decarbonizing road transport in Australia and aligns with the company’s plan to begin local electric truck production at its Wacol facility in Brisbane in 2026. Once operational, the plant will join Volvo’s global network of electric truck factories — currently in Europe and the United States — becoming the fifth worldwide and the first in Australia.

“We are very proud to continue our close partnership with Linfox,” said Roger Alm, President, Volvo Trucks. “The order for 30 Volvo electric trucks is proof of their trust in our company and in zero-emissions transport as a viable solution here and now.”

A Leap Toward Zero-Emissions Logistics
The Linfox order includes 29 Volvo FH Electric and 1 FM Electric truck, expanding on the four electric Volvo trucks already in their fleet. In addition to the electric units, Linfox is also procuring 195 conventional Volvo FH and FM trucks, highlighting a blended strategy as the company transitions its fleet.

“Linfox is excited to partner with Volvo in driving the future and leading sustainable logistics in Australia,” said Peter Fox AM, Executive Chairman, Linfox. “Further electrifying our fleet sets the standard for us, our customers, and the entire industry.”

Volvo: Global Leader in Electric Trucking
Volvo Trucks has solidified its leadership in the electric truck sector, having sold over 5,000 electric trucks across 50 countries. With eight electric models tailored to city distribution, regional haulage, construction, and waste management, Volvo captured a 47% market share in the European heavy electric truck segment in 2024, and continues to lead in North America as well.

Three-Path Strategy Toward Net Zero
Volvo is pushing forward with a three-path strategy to achieve net-zero emissions by 2040, focusing on:

  • Battery-electric trucks
  • Fuel cell-electric trucks
  • Combustion engines powered by renewable fuels like green hydrogen, Bio-LNG, and HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oil).

With this landmark order and the start of domestic manufacturing, Australia’s zero-emissions freight future moves from vision to reality, setting a new benchmark for sustainable logistics and industry transformation.
