OMV Petrom, the largest integrated energy producer in Southeastern Europe, has taken a major step in expanding its electric mobility infrastructure by introducing high-power charging services for electric trucks. The company now operates the largest electric vehicle (EV) charging hub in Romania, located on the A1 motorway at Miercurea Sibiului. This strategic development supports the growing demand for sustainable transportation solutions and aligns with OMV Petrom’s long-term decarbonization goals.

The new EV hub features a total of 34 fast-charging points — 17 in each direction — including 16 for electric passenger cars and 18 for electric trucks. Each car charger offers up to 300 kW of power, allowing a full charge in just 15–20 minutes. Truck chargers provide an even higher capacity of 400 kW, enabling a complete charge in approximately 1.5 to 2 hours — a significant improvement over conventional sub-25 kW charging, which can take an entire night.

The total installed charging capacity at the site reaches 10 MW, split equally between the two directions of the motorway (5 MW each).

Customers can pay for charging via payment terminals at the site or by using the OMV eMotion mobile app, available on the App Store and Google Play. The app also provides real-time information on charger locations and availability, offering a seamless digital experience for EV users.

“Our 2030 strategy includes the development of the largest EV charging network in Romania, as part of our commitment to support the decarbonization of transportation. The A1 highway is one of Romania’s main commercial routes and part of the pan-European TEN-T corridor,” said Radu Căprău, OMV Petrom Executive Board Member responsible for Refining and Marketing.

The charging hub at Miercurea Sibiului is more than just an energy point — it also offers a full-service rest area experience.

“With the hub at Miercurea Sibiului, we are offering transporters and drivers more than just a place to refuel – whether with conventional fuels or power. We are creating a space designed for comfort and convenience, where they can take a break, enjoy a coffee or snack, and shop. Our goal is to differentiate ourselves through the quality of our products and services, supported by the modern infrastructure we provide to our customers,” said Adrian Nicolaescu, responsible for Retail Activities in OMV Petrom Marketing.

Developed under a concession agreement between OMV Petrom Marketing and the National Road Infrastructure Administration Company (CNAIR), the Miercurea Sibiului service area also includes extended parking facilities for cars, trucks, and coaches, public restrooms, utility services (water, air, vacuum), and a retail shop offering over 3,000 curated products. The Viva gastro area features premium coffee, freshly prepared meals, sandwiches, salads, and desserts crafted daily by in-store chefs. Other services include toll payments, money transfers, and vignette purchases.

OMV Petrom currently operates approximately 780 filling stations under the OMV and Petrom brands across Romania, Moldova, Bulgaria, and Serbia. The company has built a regional network of around 1,000 EV charging points and is targeting the installation of over 5,000 charging stations by 2030, with the ambition to become the leading e-mobility service provider in Romania. This latest initiative further reinforces OMV Petrom’s commitment to enabling a lower-carbon future through innovative infrastructure and customer-focused solutions.
