Renault Group and Iberdrola España have signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), deepening their collaboration to lead Spain’s energy transition through decarbonization, electromobility, and the expansion of renewable energy solutions for both consumers and industry.
This landmark agreement builds on an existing long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) between the two companies, covering 282 MW of renewable electricity to supply Renault Group’s manufacturing plants in Spain. Iberdrola España was recently named Europe’s top PPA seller for the second year in a row, according to the Pexapark Renewables Market Outlook 2025.
Driving Sustainable Mobility for Consumers
Under the new partnership, customers purchasing 100% electric vehicles from Renault Group brands—including Renault, Dacia, and Alpine—will receive:
- Up to 10,000 km of free home charging per year for three years (30,000 km total)
- Installation of a Mobilize home charger
- Competitive EV financing via Mobilize Financial Services
- A 100% renewable home electricity contract through Iberdrola España
These benefits create one of the most comprehensive and accessible EV ownership offers in the Spanish market.
Decarbonizing the Renault Hybridisation Hub
The agreement also supports advanced energy solutions at Renault Group’s Hybridisation Hub in Spain, including:
- Renewable self-consumption and energy storage
- Expanded use of green hydrogen in industrial processes
- Enhanced electrification of operations
- New long-term renewable PPAs for sustainability and cost stability
Smart Charging and Grid Innovation
The companies will jointly develop Smart Charging technologies, enabling:
- Vehicle-to-grid (V2G) and vehicle-to-home (V2H) energy transfers
- Use of Iberdrola España’s Advanced Smart Assistant (ASA) to optimize energy consumption based on home type and grid dynamics
- Reduced customer energy bills through intelligent load management
Expanding Charging Infrastructure
The alliance will further accelerate the deployment of home and public EV charging points, including:
- At-home charger installations for Renault customers
- Expanded infrastructure at Renault facilities, with special focus on Mobilize
- Collaborative rollout of accessible, scalable EV charging networks across Spain
With more than 10 million electricity contracts and a leadership position in public and private charging, Iberdrola España joins forces with Renault Group, which sold 155,000 vehicles in Spain in 2024, to launch the first agreement of its kind between a Spanish energy company and a car manufacturer.
This strategic partnership signals a shared commitment to a low-carbon economy, aiming to redefine sustainable transport and clean energy integration across Spain’s mobility landscape.
Josep María Recasens,President and CEO of Renault Group Iberia, said, “The automotive industry is facing multiple challenges simultaneously, and decarbonisation is one of the most relevant. The signing of this pioneering MOU between Iberdrola España and Renault Group marks a milestone in the energy transition and electromobility in Spain because we’re addressing the entire value chain: from decarbonisation of industrial processes to boosting sales, to charging infrastructure. From the manufacturer’s perspective, we’re working to break down the barriers to entry for electric vehicles, optimising charging point infrastructure, improving the range and lowering the price of electric vehicles to make it the dominant technology on a large scale.”
Mario Ruiz-Tagle, CEO of Iberdrola España, said, “Today’s agreement is another step in a journey of close collaboration. Both companies have demonstrated our total commitment to the electrification of mobility, which is key to our energy autonomy and economic development. Together we have ensured that the electric vehicle has become a reality in the world’. Ruiz-Tagle added that ‘The solution offered by Iberdrola Spain and Renault Group to customers is different from others that can be found on the market because of its focus and response to customer needs, its simplicity and its innovation”.
