Hyundai’s all-new IONIQ 9 electric SUV has made an award-winning debut in the UK, securing the title of Best Seven-Seat EV at the 2025 TopGear.com Electric Awards, even before its official market launch.
Celebrated for its intelligent packaging, modern design, and advanced technology, the IONIQ 9 stood out in the fiercely competitive large EV segment. TopGear’s judging panel praised the SUV’s combination of stylish practicality and spacious comfort, calling it a “clever and accomplished” game-changer.
“Its people-carrying remit may seem utilitarian, but the IONIQ 9 is still undeniably cool,” said Jack Rix, Editor-in-chief of Top Gear. “It’s another Hyundai that proves smart design and everyday usability can go hand-in-hand.”
First unveiled in Los Angeles in December, the IONIQ 9 has quickly gained attention for its premium, minimalist aesthetic and ultra-roomy interior. Designed to accommodate families and larger groups, the vehicle features lounge-style seating, advanced infotainment, and innovative utility features such as Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and a class-leading luggage capacity of up to 1,323 litres.
Built on Hyundai’s dedicated E-GMP platform, the IONIQ 9 boasts a 110.3 kWh long-range battery, three motor configurations, and a projected range of up to 620 km (WLTP). Thanks to its 800V ultra-fast charging capability, the SUV is poised to deliver both practicality and performance, with smooth ride quality provided by a custom suspension set-up.
“The excitement around the IONIQ 9’s UK arrival is unmistakable,” said Ashley Andrew, President of Hyundai & Genesis UK. “This Top Gear recognition reinforces our confidence that the IONIQ 9 will strongly resonate with families and EV enthusiasts alike.”
Hyundai has yet to finalize the UK specifications and pricing for the IONIQ 9, but anticipation continues to build. With this latest accolade, the model joins a growing list of Hyundai’s award-winning EVs, showcasing the brand’s expanding dominance in electric mobility—from compact crossovers to high-performance models and now full-size SUVs.
