The Volkswagen Group has made a bold statement at the Volkswagen Group Night ahead of Auto Shanghai 2025, unveiling five intelligent, fully connected electric vehicles (EVs) and debuting its new AI-based Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) — marking a major leap in its “In China, for China” strategy.

Among the world premieres were three innovative concept EVs from the Volkswagen brand — the ID. ERA, ID. EVO, and ID. AURA — developed entirely in China for the Chinese market. These intelligent connected vehicles (ICVs) reflect a strong focus on the digital lifestyles of Chinese consumers. Audi followed suit with the global debut of its new all-electric model based on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE), the Audi A6L e-tron, and the first series model of the new AUDI brand, the AUDI E5 Sportback.

The event also showcased Volkswagen Group’s technological might with the introduction of a new AI-supported ADAS, developed by CARIAD’s joint venture CARIZON. Designed to offer natural and safe driving in all conditions, the system sets a new benchmark in the Chinese market. It will first appear in vehicles this year and is set for rollout across compact-class models in 2026, enabling Level 2++ automation across both highways and urban settings.

“China is the technological pacemaker of global transformation. And the Volkswagen Group is playing a key role in shaping this development,” said Oliver Blume, CEO of Volkswagen Group. “We’re shifting into delivery mode with intelligent, connected vehicles that speak directly to our Chinese customers’ needs.”

Ralf Brandstätter, Volkswagen AG’s China board member and CEO of Volkswagen Group China, echoed the sentiment: “With the first models developed entirely locally, we are entering a new chapter. Our ‘In China, for China’ strategy is about leading in intelligent mobility while staying true to our core values of quality and safety.”

Volkswagen’s ambition goes further — the Group aims to launch more than 20 fully electric and electrified models in China by 2027, growing to around 30 all-electric models by 2030, cementing its position as a leader in the Chinese EV market.

Also drawing attention were new launches from the Group’s premium brands: the Porsche 911 GT3, Bentley Continental GT Convertible Azure, Lamborghini Temerario, and Ducati’s Multistrada V4 S and Panigale V4 S.
