In a major boost for its electric vehicle (EV) customers, Kia announced that owners of its EV lineup can now access Tesla’s extensive Supercharger network across North America — a move that significantly expands public charging options for Kia drivers.
As of today, Kia EVs can utilize more than 21,500 Tesla Superchargers, bringing the total number of accessible public charging stations to over 40,000. This integration positions Kia alongside other automakers like Ford, GM, Rivian, Volvo, Polestar, Hyundai, Lucid, Nissan, and Genesis, all of whom have embraced the North American Charging Standard (NACS) infrastructure.
From CCS1 to NACS: Compatibility and Convenience
Most current Kia EVs are equipped with CCS1 (Combined Charging System) ports. To ensure compatibility, Kia will provide NACS adapters to customers. Meanwhile, upcoming models — including the 2025 EV6 and 2026 EV9 — will come factory-equipped with NACS ports, enabling seamless access to Superchargers without the need for adapters.
Kia owners can now locate, navigate to, and monitor Supercharger availability directly from their in-vehicle infotainment systems or via the Kia Connect mobile app. Charging through the Supercharger network is supported by the Kia Charge Pass program, simplifying payment and access.
Originally slated for January 2025, the rollout was postponed to spring. As of today, Kia EVs are officially cleared to use Tesla’s high-speed DC charging infrastructure.
Standing Against Vandalism
In a related statement, Kia condemned recent acts of vandalism targeting Tesla’s Supercharger stations. The company emphasized that such actions disrupt the convenience and trust essential to EV adoption and ownership.
“Access to a dependable and growing charging network is critical for electric mobility. Damaging that infrastructure not only harms EV owners but also undermines the broader transition to sustainable transportation,” Kia noted in its statement.
A Win for EV Drivers Across the Continent
The expansion marks another step toward interoperability and user convenience in the EV sector. With this development, Kia EV drivers can now enjoy faster, easier, and more widespread charging options, reducing range anxiety and improving the overall EV ownership experience.
As the EV market continues to mature, collaborations like this are expected to shape a more unified and accessible charging ecosystem for all electric vehicle users.
