In a major push to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles across the state, Governor Kathy Hochul announced on Friday that $30 million in funding is now available through New York’s Drive Clean Rebate program. The initiative provides point-of-sale rebates on more than 60 new electric vehicle (EV) models, making EV ownership more affordable for consumers statewide.

The rebate program — which has already delivered over 190,000 rebates since its launch in 2017 — aims to support the growing number of EV drivers in New York, now totaling more than 280,000 registered vehicles.

Governor Hochul also revealed enhancements to the Charge Ready NY 2.0 program, which supports the expansion of EV charging infrastructure. The incentive for installing Level 2 chargers at multifamily residences and workplaces, including hotels, has increased from $2,000 to $3,000 per port. For disadvantaged communities, as defined by the Climate Justice Working Group, the incentive jumps to $4,000 per port.

An additional $3 million has been allocated to support organizations hosting EV educational events, purchasing or leasing EVs, or providing free public charging. The program also continues to accept new equipment and network eligibility applications from EV charger vendors, ensuring a broader range of approved infrastructure options.

These efforts reinforce New York’s commitment to environmental sustainability and cleaner transportation, while addressing the need for wider EV accessibility and convenient charging solutions.
