Volvo Cars has unveiled the new Volvo S90, blending refined Scandinavian design with advanced electrified powertrains and human-centric technology. With significant updates to both design and features, the luxury sedan is now more elegant, comfortable, and tech-savvy than ever before, reinforcing Volvo’s shift toward full electrification.
Electrification Meets Elegance
A key highlight of the new S90 is its advanced plug-in hybrid powertrain, offering up to 80 kilometres of pure electric range under the WLTP cycle. With nearly half of the distance covered by Volvo’s latest plug-in hybrids powered solely by electricity, the S90 promises low-emission daily commutes without compromising power. A mild hybrid option featuring a turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine is also available, offering balanced performance with high fuel efficiency.
“The S90 is a key part of our product portfolio for the coming years in some of our Asian markets,” said Erik Severinson, Chief Product and Strategy Officer at Volvo Cars. “Together with the fully electric ES90, it ensures a complete and attractive offering for safety-conscious customers who prefer a large, stylish sedan.”
Sleek Scandinavian Design Reimagined
The new exterior design presents a refined visual identity, featuring a redesigned front grille, sculpted bonnet, and Volvo’s signature Thor’s Hammer LED headlights now in a sleeker Matrix format. At the rear, seamless taillights and a new bumper complete the car’s contemporary silhouette.
New exterior colour options, Aurora Silver and Mulberry Red, along with eye-catching diamond-cut alloy wheels, allow for greater personalization. Inside, the cabin is a haven of modern luxury with enhanced sound insulation and standard adaptive suspension for a smoother ride.
Smarter, Safer Driving
At the heart of the cabin is Volvo’s new-generation infotainment interface, now more responsive than ever. A larger 11.2-inch free-standing centre display offers an intuitive, streamlined experience, with over-the-air updates ensuring continuous enhancements post-purchase.
Safety remains paramount in the S90, equipped with an advanced safety cage and an updated Pilot Assist system. The assisted driving feature supports smooth lane keeping, adaptive cruise control, and automatic braking in stop-and-go traffic, ensuring confidence behind the wheel.
The new Volvo S90 will be available for order in China starting this summer, with other selected markets to follow. As Volvo continues its transition to a fully electric future, the refreshed S90 sedan stands as a symbol of luxury, innovation, and sustainability — all wrapped in timeless Scandinavian elegance.
