Vietnamese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer VinFast is set to enter the Indian automotive market with the upcoming launch of its VF 6, a premium all-electric B-segment SUV. Combining practicality, advanced features, and affordability, the VF 6 could become a game-changer for Indian car buyers seeking a future-ready alternative to traditional petrol SUVs.

Already well-received in its home market of Vietnam, the VF 6 is expected to meet the demands of Indian drivers with its balanced offering of style, spaciousness, smart features, and low operating costs. While the Indian variant’s specifications and pricing are yet to be officially disclosed, early user reviews from Vietnam provide encouraging insights.

“The VF 6 offers excellent visibility, giving me confidence when navigating crowded streets and narrow roads. On long trips, ADAS features like adaptive cruise control make driving more relaxed and feel safer,” said Ms. Vu Thi Tuyen, a frequent long-distance driver in Vietnam.

The VF 6 Plus trim in Vietnam comes equipped with a suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and collision warnings—features typically reserved for higher-end vehicles. These are expected to resonate with Indian commuters who face long travel times and congested urban roads.

Interior design is another highlight. The electric drivetrain allows for a longer wheelbase (2,730 mm), providing more interior space than many C-segment SUVs. Combined with comfortable suspension, the VF 6 is reportedly well-suited to India’s uneven road conditions.

A 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system—one of the largest in its class—dominates the dashboard. Paired with a connected smartphone app, users can remotely manage climate control, check battery levels, and track vehicle location, offering added convenience in India’s varied climate zones.

VinFast also addresses range anxiety, a major concern among Indian EV buyers. The VF 6 promises up to 480 km of range (NEDC standard), enough to cover trips such as Delhi to Jaipur without charging. This range becomes especially meaningful as India’s EV charging infrastructure expands.

Affordability is at the core of the VF 6’s value proposition. In Vietnam, the model is priced competitively with traditional petrol SUVs. Owners report substantial savings on maintenance and fuel costs, with long-term expenses significantly lower than fossil-fuel counterparts.

“The math is straightforward: no oil changes, fewer brake replacements thanks to regenerative braking, and electricity costs lower than fossil fuels,” noted one Vietnamese owner. Another added, “After clocking 12,000 km, I spent just 300,000 VND (approximately Rs. 1,000) for maintenance—lower than even a two-wheel motorbike.”

Mr. Le Duy Sơn, who commutes 120 km daily, shared, “Tap the accelerator at a red light, and the VF 6 leaves other cars behind. The VF 6 offers a more comfortable driving experience than the petrol cars I’ve driven.”

With government incentives for electric vehicles, the VF 6 may prove even more financially attractive to Indian buyers. And with its performance, design, and long-term cost benefits, it might just offer the ideal package.

As anticipation builds, the question for Indian consumers may no longer be whether to consider an EV, but when the right one arrives. For many, the VinFast VF 6 could well be that car.
