Mercedes-Benz is enhancing the driving experience for over two million vehicles globally with the latest MBUX 2.6 over-the-air (OTA) update. The update introduces a suite of new features across its infotainment systems, emphasizing convenience, efficiency, and adventure.
Enhanced Navigation with Google Satellite View & Live Alternative Routes
Among the most notable upgrades is the integration of Google Satellite View and Live Alternative Routes for users of MBUX navigation services. Google Satellite View provides high-resolution, bird’s-eye imagery, simplifying navigation, especially in rural or unfamiliar areas. It is available on vehicles equipped with the second- and third-generation MBUX systems and updates automatically for customers who already have the Satellite View Digital Extra activated.
Meanwhile, the Live Alternative Routes function, available for electric vehicles with second-generation MBUX (G-Class, EQS, EQE, EQB, EQA), works in tandem with Navigation with Electric Intelligence to calculate the most efficient routes—including real-time traffic, distance, and estimated charging times—while letting drivers choose their preferred path. “Our latest MBUX 2.6 software update introduces exciting new features over-the-air. Updates to our navigation technology, Mercedes-Benz Stories app and MBUX Voice Assistant further enhance the in-car digital experience for our customers. It’s also part of our ongoing commitment to keep our vehicles feeling up-to-date after purchase.” said Magnus Östberg, Chief Software Officer, Mercedes-Benz AG
ChatGPT-Enhanced Voice Assistant Expands to Millions of Vehicles
Mercedes-Benz is expanding access to its AI-powered MBUX Voice Assistant, now enhanced with ChatGPT. This update, which began rolling out last year, is now available on three million vehicles, including those with first-generation MBUX systems.
By leveraging Microsoft’s Azure OpenAI Service and Bing search, the voice assistant can provide intelligent, natural-sounding answers to a wide range of topics—from pop culture and science to history and geography. It also supports context-aware follow-up questions, offering a more conversational and helpful in-car experience.
Offroad Adventure Meets Digital Innovation with Offroad Track
For adventure seekers, Mercedes-Benz introduces Offroad Track—a new feature within the Mercedes-Benz Stories app. This tool gives drivers access to user-shared 4×4 routes, complete with the ability to record and share offroad journeys. By mounting a smartphone to the windshield, users can capture driving footage while the vehicle records data like elevation, speed, GPS, and descent angles. These inputs are merged into a personalized highlight reel, complete with video and telemetry data.
Offroad Track is compatible with vehicles featuring the second-generation MBUX system (G-Class, EQS SUV, EQE SUV, GLS, GLE, GLB, GLA), and the Stories app is available on both the Apple App Store and Google Play.
In-Car Convenience with Entertainment Package Plus
In addition, customers with second- and third-generation MBUX systems can now purchase the Entertainment Package Plus directly through the Mercedes-Benz Store on their vehicle’s touchscreen—making upgrades more seamless than ever.
