Lexus has officially introduced the latest iteration of its dedicated battery electric vehicle (BEV), the new RZ, marking a significant step forward in its electrification journey. The model, unveiled in Brussels, brings an array of innovative features, including a next-generation Steer-by-Wire system, an improved battery EV platform, and the all-new Interactive Manual Drive for a more engaging driving experience. The vehicle is set to launch gradually across multiple regions starting in fall 2025.
Pioneering Electrification with Lexus Driving Signature
Since the launch of the RX 400h in 2005, Lexus has been at the forefront of luxury vehicle electrification. In 2024, electrified models accounted for 52% of the Lexus lineup, a record high. This new RZ continues Lexus’ commitment to sustainable mobility by offering a refined balance between performance and environmental responsibility.
The updated BEV system enhances efficiency, increasing driving range by 20% and reducing charging times, making the RZ more practical for everyday use. Lexus has also fine-tuned the DIRECT4 all-wheel-drive system, delivering smoother, more intuitive driving dynamics aligned with the brand’s signature “The Natural” driving concept.
Introducing the High-Performance RZ 550e F SPORT
Expanding the RZ lineup, Lexus introduces the RZ 550e F SPORT, a high-output variant featuring front and rear motors with a combined output of 300 kW. This powerful configuration enables 0-100 km/h acceleration in just 4.4 seconds, providing an exhilarating drive for enthusiasts.
The F SPORT variant stands out with exclusive exterior color options, aerodynamic enhancements, sport-tuned suspension, and an F SPORT-specific interior featuring aluminum pedals, a unique steering wheel, and premium seating.
Revolutionizing Steering with Steer-by-Wire and Interactive Manual Drive
Lexus is pushing the boundaries of driving dynamics with the introduction of its first-ever Steer-by-Wire system. This technology eliminates the mechanical connection between the steering wheel and the wheels, providing precise, responsive handling that enhances maneuverability at low speeds and stability at high speeds.
Additionally, Lexus debuts Interactive Manual Drive, a feature that simulates the sensation of manual gear shifts, synchronizing acceleration and deceleration with immersive sound feedback. This system enhances driver engagement, making for a more sporty and responsive driving experience.
Enhanced Specifications for Performance and Efficiency
The new RZ features a range of improvements over its predecessor. Key specifications include:
Extended driving range: Up to 575 km (WLTP mode, 18-inch tires)
Reduced energy consumption: As low as 144 Wh/km
Improved battery capacity: 76.96 kWh
Rapid charging compatibility: CCS2 standard for faster charging times
Lighter yet stronger body structure for improved safety and efficiency
Lexus’ Commitment to Electrification and Driving Pleasure
Speaking about the advancements in the new RZ, Shinya Ito, Chief Engineer at Lexus International, emphasized the brand’s mission to enhance driving enjoyment through cutting-edge electrification technology.
“At Lexus, we believe that electrification should not only contribute to sustainability but also elevate the joy of driving. With the Steer-by-Wire system and Interactive Manual Drive, we are deepening the connection between driver and vehicle, delivering a more intuitive and exhilarating experience,” said Ito.
The new RZ represents a significant evolution in Lexus’ BEV strategy, offering a blend of luxury, performance, and next-generation technology. With the fall 2025 rollout, Lexus continues to pave the way toward a carbon-neutral future while redefining what it means to drive an electrified vehicle.
