Mercedes-Benz Vans has begun the final winter testing phase for its new multipurpose vehicles (MPVs), focusing on vehicle dynamics, thermal management, and interior comfort. The tests are being conducted under Arctic conditions in Arjeplog, Sweden, where the vehicles’ performance in extreme temperatures is being closely monitored.

The upcoming MPVs will feature 4MATIC all-wheel drive and rear-axle steering, meeting the highest demands of customers. The testing is evaluating the vehicles’ efficiency and range, as well as their ability to handle extreme cold, ensuring they perform well in even the harshest climates.

Our future MPVs herald a new era. To achieve our ambitious development goals, we are taking advantage of all the opportunities offered by digitalisation. Thanks to our Mission Control Center, we were able to optimise the data from the trips in real time. This has allowed us to significantly shorten our test time frame and make significant progress in terms of product maturity in a very efficient way,” said Dr. Andreas Zygan, Head of Development Mercedes-Benz Vans, Mercedes-Benz AG.

The future model lineup will include a variety of vehicles, ranging from high-end family cars and exclusive VIP shuttles to luxurious limousines, offering exceptional space and comfort. All new vans will be based on the flexible and scalable Mercedes-Benz Van Architecture, with the all-electric Van Electric Architecture (VAN.EA) set to launch in 2026, ushering in a new era for the brand. The Van Combustion Architecture (VAN.CA) will follow with state-of-the-art combustion engine models. Regardless of the drivetrain, the new architecture will clearly distinguish between luxury private vans and premium commercial transporters.

As part of a comprehensive testing plan across various climate zones, the winter tests are focused on vehicle dynamics, safety systems like ESP®, and the ventilation and heating of the spacious interiors. The test vehicles are being rigorously evaluated, with individual components and overall systems undergoing intensive testing. Early results show the vehicles are performing excellently, even under extreme cold, passing demanding test cycles with ease.
