Hyundai IONIQ 5 N TA Spec Sets Fastest EV Record at ‘Attack Tsukuba 2025’

Hyundai Motor Company’s IONIQ 5 N TA Spec has set a new benchmark in electric vehicle (EV) performance, achieving the fastest EV lap time at the prestigious Attack Tsukuba 2025 motorsport event. The high-performance EV completed a lap of the Tsukuba Circuit in just 57.446 seconds, nearly two seconds ahead of its closest EV competitor.

Renowned Japanese professional driver Nobuteru Taniguchi piloted the IONIQ 5 N TA Spec to this record-breaking feat on the legendary Tsukuba Circuit, a track famous for its tight turns and technical layout.

“I’m honored to have had the opportunity to drive the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N TA Spec at Attack Tsukuba 2025,” said Taniguchi. “The car stops well, handles excellently, and despite its power, offers outstanding control with smooth and stable cornering. I could push it to the limit with real confidence.”

The IONIQ 5 N TA Spec is a motorsport-modified version of the award-winning IONIQ 5 N, showcasing Hyundai’s cutting-edge EV technologies. The vehicle, which previously claimed victory at the 2024 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, retains key production components such as its high-performance power electronics system. Through software tuning, Hyundai has boosted its maximum output to 687 PS, increasing rear motor power by 37 PS over the standard IONIQ 5 N.

Performance Upgrades for Peak Racing
To dominate the track, the IONIQ 5 N TA Spec features:
N Active Sound+ with modified speakers (120 dB+)
Motorsport-grade brakes and new shock absorbers
18-inch Yokohama ADVAN 005 slick tires
High-downforce aerodynamic package
Recaro Pro Racer SPA Hans seat with a six-point safety harness
PPIHC-specification roll cage & EV fire suppression system

Hyundai’s Growing EV Dominance
Hyundai’s latest achievement at Attack Tsukuba 2025 highlights its growing influence in Japan’s emerging EV market. The company recently launched the INSTER subcompact electric SUV in Japan, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable performance vehicles.

“Today’s record is a testament to Hyundai’s relentless pursuit of EV excellence,” said Joon Park, Head of N Management Group. “The IONIQ 5 N TA Spec’s lap time, achieved using mostly production components, is not just a milestone for us—it’s a clear sign that high-performance EVs are here to stay.”

With this record-breaking performance, Hyundai solidifies its position at the forefront of EV motorsport, proving that electric vehicles can compete—and win—on the world’s toughest circuits.
