Ho-Sung Song, President and CEO of Kia Motors, first announced in 2024 the company’s intention to introduce mass-market EVs tailored for emerging markets. Building on this vision, Kia India has confirmed the launch of electric versions of the popular Kia Carens MPV and the recently introduced Kia Syros subcompact SUV. However, the company has yet to disclose which model will debut first.
Speaking at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, Harpreet Brar, Head of Sales & Marketing at Kia India, stated, “We are planning to expand our EV lineup this year.” Brar emphasized that Kia’s existing EV6, positioned in the premium segment, will soon be joined by more affordable mass-market EV options, broadening the company’s accessibility in the Indian EV market.
EV6 Facelift and Upcoming Models
The Kia EV6 recently underwent a facelift, featuring an upgraded 84 kWh battery pack replacing the previous 77.5 kWh unit. Despite the unchanged power figures of 320 bhp and 605 Nm, the driving range has dropped from 708 km to 650 km on a single charge. However, the ultra-fast 350 kW DC charging capability remains a highlight, offering 0 to 80% charging in just 18 minutes.
The larger, three-row Kia EV9 was also showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 and is expected to enter the Indian market in 2026, further expanding Kia’s electric lineup.
Global Expansion Plans
Globally, Kia Motors has an ambitious roadmap to introduce 15 new EV models by 2027. The EV3 will lead this rollout with a global launch in 2025, followed by models such as the EV2, EV4, and EV5. Six of these will cater to mass-market consumers, signaling Kia’s commitment to making EVs more accessible worldwide.
While specifications for the upcoming EV models remain under wraps, industry experts anticipate that the entry-level EV will share its platform and technology with the Inster EV, a model from Kia’s parent company, and offer a range of over 350 km on a single charge.
Kia’s strategic focus on expanding its EV footprint underscores its commitment to advancing sustainable mobility solutions and solidifying its position in the competitive global EV market.
