Audi has taken a significant step forward in hybrid technology with the introduction of its groundbreaking MHEV Plus system, now debuting in the new Audi A5 and Q5 models built on the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC). This innovation combines enhanced efficiency, reduced emissions, and improved driving comfort, signaling Audi’s commitment to electrification tailored to consumer needs.

“We are driving forward electrification in our combustion-engine vehicles, providing our customers with optimal performance and efficiency,” said Geoffrey Bouquot, Member of the Board of Management for Technical Development at AUDI AG.

Cutting-Edge Hybridization
The MHEV Plus system introduces a powertrain generator (PTG), working alongside a belt alternator starter (BAS) and a 48-volt lithium iron phosphate battery. This advanced integration reduces carbon emissions, improves agility, and allows partially electric driving. Key features include:

Electric Boosting: Up to 18 kW (24 PS) of additional power with 230 Nm of torque directly available at low speeds.
Fuel Savings: Up to 0.74 l/100 km and 17 g/km of CO₂ reduction in specific models.
Enhanced Efficiency: Electric coasting, regenerative braking, and emission-free parking.
The PTG, a compact and powerful electric module, operates up to speeds of 140 km/h and enables purely electric driving in city traffic or low-speed situations. Additionally, the 48-volt system is optimized with liquid cooling to ensure durability and performance.

Improved Driving Dynamics
The MHEV Plus system enhances vehicle responsiveness, delivering smoother acceleration and agility. The system supports multiple driving modes, offering flexibility between efficiency and sportiness. Features like an integrated brake control system (iBRS) ensure efficient energy recovery during braking without compromising braking feel.

Designed for Consumer Needs
The MHEV Plus architecture aligns with Audi’s vision for versatile hybrid systems. Its benefits include lower fuel consumption, increased range, and better performance, making it ideal for long-distance travel.

Market Availability
While the MHEV Plus technology is tailored to markets like Europe, Audi has confirmed it will not be introduced in the US due to differing customer preferences.

With this innovation, Audi strengthens its hybrid and electrification portfolio, setting a benchmark for future-forward mobility solutions.
