In a revolutionary move to simplify EV charging and promote financial inclusion, Pulse Energy has launched ‘Paybox’, an innovative app-less payment solution for electric vehicle (EV) chargers. This cutting-edge technology enables users to start EV chargers with ease, eliminating the need for dedicated mobile apps and enhancing accessibility for all.

The ‘Paybox’ terminals, which support 2W, 3W, and 4W vehicles, allow customers to make payments using cards, UPI, or UEI. Users simply scan, swipe, or insert their card to approve a transaction, then plug in the charging cable. Updates on charging status are shared via WhatsApp or through the operator’s mobile app, ensuring a seamless experience.

Initial Deployment and Expansion Plans
The terminals will first be deployed in Bangalore and Mumbai, with plans to expand across India in the coming months. Charging networks can pre-book their Paybox units through Pulse Energy’s website.

Addressing Key Challenges
Traditional payment terminals are often prohibitively expensive, costing more than some EV chargers available in India. Paybox counters this issue by offering a solution priced at just one-third the cost of international payment terminals. This affordability, combined with the use of homegrown payment technologies like UPI, aims to boost EV infrastructure adoption nationwide.

Future-Ready and Inclusive
Paybox is designed to evolve with upcoming integrations for Fastag and NFC tap-and-pay. By supporting various payment methods, it caters to a broad audience, including those who are less tech-savvy. With over 20,000 EV chargers currently in India requiring app-based operations, Paybox empowers users unfamiliar with apps to access charging facilities with ease.

Speaking about the launch, Mr. Akhil Jayaprakash, Founder of Pulse Energy, said, “Our goal with Paybox is financial inclusion. To transition to an EV-only world, we need solutions that cater to all segments of our population. By H1 2025, we aim to facilitate over 5,000 daily transactions through Paybox.

Aligned with India’s FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles) initiative, Paybox exemplifies the country’s mission to drive sustainable development. This breakthrough technology is expected to play a pivotal role in accelerating the adoption of green mobility solutions across the nation.
