The E.ON Group has achieved a major milestone. In November 2024, the E.ON SE Executive Board, the European Works Council, the Group Works Council, and the Group Committee of Executive Representatives jointly signed comprehensive guidelines for the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI).

As digitalization and technological advancements rapidly reshape the workplace, E.ON recognizes both the opportunities and challenges of these changes. Through this new agreement, the company reaffirms its leadership role in the energy sector by setting standards for the ethical and legally compliant use of AI. The implementation of AI systems is guided by the objective of delivering lasting benefits across business segments while empowering employees in their roles. AI-driven solutions, such as predictive maintenance and image analysis, are already enhancing operations and contributing to strategic goals.Axel Winterwerber, Chairman of the Group Works Council at E.ON, emphasizes: “For us, it is important that this technology benefits all colleagues and that we can actively shape its development. Our joint declaration ensures that the use of AI is fair and transparent.”

This agreement aligns with the risk-based framework outlined in the EU’s newly adopted AI regulation. The regulation seeks to ensure the safe and trustworthy development of AI, safeguard fundamental rights, and encourage innovation across Europe. Victoria Ossadnik, E.ON Board Member responsible for Digital and Innovation, explains: “With this joint declaration, we are setting a new standard for the responsible use of artificial intelligence in the company together with our social partners. This agreement enables us to prepare our employees for the future in a targeted manner and to make the best possible use of the potential of AI.”
