BMW M GmbH, the sports car division of the BMW Group, has set another milestone in its storied history by achieving record-breaking sales for the 13th consecutive year. In the 2024 fiscal year, the company sold an unprecedented 206,582 vehicles, exceeding the 200,000-vehicle benchmark reached for the first time in 2023. This outstanding achievement underscores BMW M’s dominance in the performance and high-performance automotive market.

Electric Models Lead the Charge

The all-electric BMW i4 M50 emerged as the best-selling model for the third consecutive year. Combining agility, precision, and dynamics with cutting-edge electromobility, the i4 M50 features a dual-motor setup generating 400 kW/544 hp and offers a range of up to 522 kilometers (WLTP). The rising demand for electric and hybrid models demonstrates the success of BMW M’s technology-neutral strategy, which caters to enthusiasts of all drive types.

High-Performance Models Drive Growth

BMW M’s high-performance lineup saw remarkable growth in 2024. Highlights include:

  • BMW M2: Achieved a staggering 64% sales increase, driven by its robust M TwinPower Turbo straight-six-cylinder engine (353 kW/480 hp).
  • BMW M3 Touring: Recorded a 57% growth in sales, underscoring the popularity of its versatility and dynamic capabilities.
  • BMW XM: BMW M’s first electrified high-performance vehicle registered a 16% sales growth, with its M HYBRID System producing up to 550 kW/748 hp in the top-tier model.

Overall, high-performance models contributed significantly, with 66,805 units sold and an 8% year-over-year increase.

Global Leadership and Market Expansion

BMW M continues to dominate internationally, maintaining its position as the market leader in key regions, including the USA, UK, and Germany. In 2024, nearly one in ten vehicles sold by the BMW Group was an M model, reflecting a 9.4% share of total sales—a new record.

Franciscus van Meel, Chairman of the Board of Management at BMW M GmbH, remarked: “This expression of trust motivates us to deliver another strong performance in 2025, despite the highly challenging economic environment.”

Future Plans and Motorsport Achievements

Looking ahead, BMW M is set to expand its model diversity in 2025, with new editions and innovations across combustion engines, plug-in hybrids, and all-electric drives, including the highly anticipated BMW M3 EV.

Motorsport also remains central to BMW M’s brand. The company celebrated significant achievements in 2024, including a podium finish at the FIA World Endurance Championship and 215 race victories across its BMW M Motorsport lineup.
