LG Energy Solution Partners with Aptera Motors to Power Solar EV Revolution

LG Energy Solution has announced an exclusive partnership with Aptera Motors Corp., a trailblazer in solar electric vehicles (EVs), to supply cylindrical batteries for Aptera’s innovative solar EVs. The collaboration, formalized through a three-party Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with battery module manufacturer CTNS, was unveiled at CES 2025 in Las Vegas.

The agreement secures LG Energy Solution’s role as the exclusive supplier of 2170 cylindrical battery cells for Aptera’s solar EVs from 2025 to 2031, marking a significant step in sustainable transportation.

Key Details of the Partnership
Battery Cell Supply: LG Energy Solution will supply 4.4GWh of its 2170 cylindrical battery cells to support Aptera’s production ramp-up, starting in 2025.
Manufacturing Excellence: CTNS will integrate LG’s cells into high-quality battery modules and packs, customized for Aptera’s solar EVs.
Advanced Solar EV Integration: Aptera will incorporate these components into its eco-friendly solar EVs, achieving industry-leading efficiency and sustainability.
A Solar EV Built for the Future
Aptera’s solar EV, set to launch in the U.S. in 2025, boasts an ultra-aerodynamic design for maximum energy efficiency. Key features include:

Driving Range: 643 km (400 miles) per charge.
Solar Charging: Integrated panels can power up to 64 km (40 miles) daily or 16,093 km (10,000 miles) annually.
Eco-Friendly Design: Lightweight carbon fiber structure and recyclable materials ensure sustainability and cost efficiency.

The partnership leverages LG Energy Solution’s advancements in cylindrical battery technology, including:

High-Performance NCMA Cathodes: Enhanced with aluminum for superior output and durability.
SRS® Safety Reinforced Separator: A proprietary ceramic-coated separator ensuring maximum safety.
LG Energy Solution’s leadership in cylindrical batteries is further highlighted by its plans to begin mass production of 46-series batteries at its Queen Creek, Arizona, facility by 2026, positioning the company as a global force in EV battery innovation.
