Mahindra has inaugurated a cutting-edge electric vehicle manufacturing and battery assembly facility at its Chakan plant, marking a significant milestone in India’s journey toward sustainable mobility. The fully integrated ecosystem is dedicated to the production of Mahindra’s next-generation Electric Origin SUVs, combining advanced automation, eco-friendly processes, and a commitment to inclusivity.

A Giant Leap in EV Manufacturing
Located within Mahindra’s sprawling 2.83 km² Chakan manufacturing hub, the facility is powered entirely by renewable energy and operates as a water-positive plant. This expansion aligns with Mahindra’s announcement of a ₹4,500 crore investment—part of the ₹16,000 crore allocation for FY22-FY27—targeted at EV powertrain development, product innovation, and manufacturing capacity.

The facility reflects Mahindra’s “Make in India for the World” vision, positioning India as a global hub for EV innovation and production.

Next-Generation EV Facility Highlights
Massive Infrastructure: Spread across 88,000 m², the facility houses an automated Press Shop, AI-powered Body Shop, and one of India’s most advanced robotic Paint Shops.
Industry 4.0 Integration: Equipped with over 1,000 robots and IoT-based monitoring systems for seamless operations and real-time insights.
Inclusive Workforce: With a focus on skill development, the facility aims for a 25% gender diversity ratio, fostering inclusivity in a future-ready workspace.
Sustainability Focus: The facility is designed with AMRs (Autonomous Mobile Robots) and AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicles) to enhance safety and efficiency while reducing environmental impact.
World-Class Battery Assembly Unit
Mahindra’s new battery manufacturing plant stands out with its:

Compact Design: One of the world’s most space-efficient lines, employing patented processes for lean module assembly.
Cutting-Edge Technology: Features hidden cell terminal welding, multi-layered testing, and IP67 ingress protection for durability and reliability.
Advanced Automation: Utilizes Industry 4.0 technologies for high-performance battery production tailored for electric mobility.

Speaking about the initiative, Mahindra’s leadership emphasized their commitment to shaping the future of mobility. The facility not only supports localized battery assembly and EV production but also aligns with India’s COP26 goals for 2030, contributing to a cleaner, greener future.

This new hub underscores Mahindra’s resolve to revolutionize the EV industry by combining technological innovation, eco-conscious practices, and customer-centric solutions.
