India’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki, has officially revealed its upcoming e Vitara electric SUV, set to make its debut in India at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 on January 17. The e Vitara first appeared publicly in Milan, Italy, in 2024 and is based on Maruti’s eVX concept, which was unveiled at the Auto Expo 2023.
The e Vitara marks Maruti Suzuki’s first fully electric model designed specifically for electric powertrains and is expected to go on sale in India in March 2025. The electric SUV will compete against rivals such as the recently launched Mahindra BE 6, Tata Curvv EV, MG Windsor EV, and the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV, which is set to launch in January 2025.
At the time of the eVX concept’s unveiling in January 2023, Maruti Suzuki officials had indicated that the production version would closely resemble the concept. The production-spec e Vitara carries over many design elements from the eVX, though with a bolder and more refined appearance compared to the angular concept.
Inside, the e Vitara boasts a premium dual-tone black and tan cabin, with soft-touch upholstery and a free-standing single-piece panel combining the touchscreen and instrument cluster. The SUV features a flat-bottom steering wheel, rotary gear selector knob, electronic parking brake, a 360-degree camera, and connected car technology. Further details on the vehicle’s technology and features will be revealed at the unveiling.
