Ford Motor Company has wrapped up 2024 with robust sales growth, outpacing the broader automotive industry and cementing its leadership in multiple segments. Retail sales rose by 6%, double the industry’s estimated growth rate, while fourth-quarter retail sales surged 17%, driven by an impressive 25% growth in the F-Series lineup.
F-Series Dominance Continues
The Ford F-Series, America’s best-selling truck for 48 consecutive years, saw a 21% year-over-year sales increase in Q4, showcasing the strength of Ford’s “Freedom of Choice” strategy. Offering gas, diesel, hybrid, and electric models, the F-Series closed 2024 with record sales across all powertrains.
Electrified Vehicles Set New Records
Ford’s electrified lineup had a banner year with 285,291 vehicles sold, a 38% increase over 2023. Key highlights include:
- Mustang Mach-E: Sales climbed 27% to 51,745, making it the second-best-selling electric SUV in the U.S. after Tesla’s Model Y.
- F-150 Lightning: Sales surged 39% to 33,510.
- E-Transit Van: Sales grew 64% to 12,610.
Ford’s Power Promise program, offering complimentary home chargers and support for EV customers, helped drive Q4 sales of 30,176 electric vehicles, marking a new quarterly record.
Hybrid vehicles also played a pivotal role, with record sales of 187,426 units, up 40% from 2023. The F-150 Hybrid emerged as America’s best-selling hybrid truck, with 73,845 units sold (+47%), followed by the Maverick Hybrid with 68,752 units sold (+31%).
SUV and Commercial Vehicle Success
Ford’s Explorer retained its title as America’s best-selling three-row SUV with 194,094 units sold. Expedition sales grew 6%, while Bronco family sales reached 233,873, fueled by a 38% Q4 increase.
In the commercial segment, Ford’s Transit van led the market with 152,738 units sold (+18%), extending its leadership for 46 years. Ford Pro Intelligence software subscriptions grew 27% to 649,000 active accounts, highlighting the increasing demand for integrated vehicle solutions.
Lincoln Shines with Best Sales in 17 Years
Lincoln reported its best retail sales since 2007, with annual sales up 28% to 104,823 units. The all-new Nautilus was the brand’s top seller, with Q4 sales up 88%, while the Aviator posted a 62% annual increase in sales.
As Ford prepares for key 2025 product launches, including new versions of the Expedition, Navigator, and Bronco, it has bolstered inventory levels to mitigate potential supply chain challenges. Enhanced features such as the BlueCruise 1.5 hands-free driving technology will debut on 2025 models, promising a refined driving experience.
