Tata Motors, India’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturer, today inaugurated a fleet of indigenously built electric buses dedicated to workforce transportation at its Pantnagar manufacturing facility. Powered by advanced battery systems and equipped with modern features, these zero-emission buses are a step towards sustainable and green mobility.

TML Smart City Mobility Solutions Limited (TSCMSL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Motors, will manage the transportation operations with Tata Ultra 9m electric buses. The initiative aims to provide a safe, comfortable, and eco-friendly commute for over 5,000 employees while cutting carbon emissions by approximately 1,100 tonnes annually. The e-buses will be charged using electricity generated from a 16MW solar energy plant, ensuring a completely green operation.

Speaking at the launch, Mr. Vishal Badshah, Vice President and Head – Operations, Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles, remarked, “The introduction of electric buses for workforce commuting marks a significant step forward towards fulfilling Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles’ aspiration of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2045. The Pantnagar plant has set benchmarks in sustainability as a certified Zero Waste to Landfill facility and is water-positive as per CII-GBC standards. This e-fleet adds to its legacy of environmental stewardship.”

The Tata Ultra EV 9m electric buses feature regenerative braking systems and Intelligent Transport Systems, enhancing efficiency and safety. This deployment builds on Tata Motors’ success in India’s electric mobility segment, where over 3,100 electric buses have been operational across 10 cities, cumulatively covering over 24 crore kilometers with an uptime exceeding 95%.

This milestone underscores Tata Motors’ commitment to sustainable innovation and reinforces its leadership in the electric mass mobility sector.
