Audi FAW NEV Company, a joint venture between Audi and its long-time partner FAW, has launched production of all-electric Audi models at its state-of-the-art plant in Changchun. This facility, the first in China dedicated exclusively to fully electric Audi vehicles, is central to Audi’s strategy for the Chinese market. It marks the debut of the Audi Q6L e-tron family, followed by a market-specific version of the Audi A6 e-tron, both built on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE). The Q6L e-tron, the first PPE-based Audi vehicle produced in China, features an extended wheelbase and design innovations tailored to local preferences, including a China-specific digital interior experience. Its sibling, the Q6L Sportback e-tron, blends SUV versatility with a sporty coupé design.

Located in FAW’s traditional home of Changchun, the plant will generate approximately 3,000 new jobs and is designed for an annual production capacity exceeding 150,000 vehicles. Fully integrated with a press shop, body shop, paint shop, and assembly line, the facility also houses a dedicated battery assembly unit for the high-voltage batteries used in China-specific PPE models. This new production site underscores Audi’s commitment to electrifying its product portfolio in China, supporting the nation’s growing demand for premium electric vehicles.

“Localized production of market-specific models has always been key to our success in China, and it is essential for the future of Audi to be close to customers,” said Gerd Walker, Member of the Board of Management for Production and Logistics at AUDI AG.

Audi is therefore focusing even more strongly on market-oriented production in the three core regions of Europe, North America, and China. Walker added, “With its state-of-the-art, fully integrated, and eco-friendly production, the plant is setting new standards across the Audi production network.”
