Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has announced its ambitious plan to establish nearly 600 public EV fast charging stations across India by 2031. By the end of December 2024, the company aims to set up 50 stations, underscoring its commitment to promoting sustainable mobility and supporting India’s transition to cleaner energy.
Addressing EV Charging Concerns
Highlighting the importance of this initiative, Mr. Jae Wan Ryu, Function Head – Corporate Planning at HMIL, stated, “The EV market is expected to grow robustly by 2030. However, our studies show that customers hesitate to take long-distance trips due to insufficient charging infrastructure. With access to Hyundai’s global EV and battery technology, we are poised to build a robust EV ecosystem in India and ensure greater convenience for EV owners.”
To date, Hyundai’s network has facilitated approximately 50,000 charging sessions, dispensing over 7.30 lakh units of energy to more than 10,000 EV users, including both Hyundai and non-Hyundai customers.
Tamil Nadu MoU for 100 Charging Stations
In a significant move, HMIL has signed an MoU with the Tamil Nadu government to set up 100 EV charging stations across the state by 2027. Ten of these stations will be operational by the end of 2024, and three are already active in Chennai and Tiruvannamalai. All charging stations in Tamil Nadu are accessible 24×7 via the myHyundai app, ensuring convenience for all EV users.
Pan-India Network Expansion
HMIL is strategically positioning its charging stations in key cities like Gurugram, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai, as well as along major highways including Delhi-Chandigarh, Mumbai-Pune, and Bengaluru-Pune. These locations offer premium amenities like coffee shops, restaurants, and 24×7 security to enhance user experience.
Advanced Technology and Inclusivity
Hyundai’s charging stations are equipped with advanced chargers featuring multiple configurations, including DC 150 kW, DC 60 kW, and DC 30 kW options. The facilities are designed to accommodate all four-wheeler EVs manufactured in India, ensuring accessibility for a broader audience at attractive tariffs.
Seamless Access with myHyundai App
HMIL’s myHyundai app connects users to over 10,000 EV charging points across India through partnerships with providers like ChargeZone, Statiq, and Shell India. This comprehensive network enables EV users to travel seamlessly from Kashmir to Kanyakumari.
Leading the Green Mobility Movement
With over 4,061 EVs sold, including the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and KONA, HMIL is making significant strides in driving EV adoption in India. Its focus on expanding infrastructure and leveraging advanced technology is set to play a pivotal role in the nation’s journey toward a greener future.
This initiative reinforces Hyundai’s position as a leader in sustainable mobility, catering to the growing demand for EVs and setting a benchmark for infrastructure development in the automotive industry.
