In a significant milestone for BMW’s electric mobility journey, the BMW Group Plant Steyr in Austria has shipped its first sixth-generation electric engines to the BMW Group Plant in Debrecen, Hungary. These e-motors will power the Neue Klasse test vehicles, marking a crucial step toward series production.
The achievement comes just ten months after the installation of the electric drivetrain systems at the Steyr facility. Klaus von Moltke, Senior Vice President of Engine Production at BMW AG and Managing Director of Plant Steyr, shared: “Since September, our plant has been supplying these cutting-edge electric engines to Munich’s development team. Now, they are being sent directly to Debrecen for integration into test vehicles.”
Pioneering the Future of E-Mobility
Production of the next-generation electric motors began three months ago at Steyr, where BMW has established itself as a global leader in engine manufacturing. Helmut Hochsteiner, Vice President of Electric Engine Production at the plant, emphasized the focus on refinement: “In the coming months, we will continue validating and optimizing the production process for these advanced e-motors.”
The shipment to Debrecen represents a critical phase in the roadmap toward series production of both the Neue Klasse electric vehicle lineup and its innovative e-motors.
