Honda Motor Co., Ltd., in partnership with Swedish startup GoCimo, is set to initiate a battery sharing service pilot in Malmö, Sweden, starting in February 2025. The year-long test aims to assess the viability and user acceptance of battery swapping services for electric motorcycles in Europe, a growing market for electric mobility solutions.

The pilot program will feature Honda’s EM1 e: electric scooter and its Mobile Power Pack e: batteries, which can be exchanged at Honda Power Pack Exchanger e: stations. Three of these battery swap stations will be installed at strategic locations across Malmö. Honda will supply 30 EM1 e: scooters and 60 Mobile Power Packs for the pilot, ensuring after-sales support for seamless operation.

GoCimo, previously known as GoCiklo, specializes in electric vehicle rentals with swappable batteries and will manage service operations, customer onboarding, and site acquisition for the battery exchange stations. Already experienced in battery-sharing initiatives in Stockholm and Gothenburg, GoCimo aims to leverage its expertise to make electric vehicle adoption easier for business users by lowering entry costs and minimizing vehicle downtime.

This collaboration marks Honda’s fifth venture into battery sharing, adding to similar programs in Japan, India, Indonesia, and Thailand. Both companies will use this pilot to evaluate the potential for a long-term partnership in Europe, with ambitions to expand battery-sharing services to other major cities and contribute to Europe’s low-carbon mobility goals.

“Honda is committed to promoting the global adoption of electric motorcycles,” said Daiki Mihara, Operating Executive at Honda. “This collaboration with GoCimo is a significant step in creating a viable business model for electric mobility in Europe.”

GoCimo CEO Mattias Tingvall added, “Our battery-sharing model reduces entry barriers to electric vehicle adoption, cuts downtime, and enhances safety. This pilot with Honda will further showcase the potential of battery-sharing services in Europe.”
