Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEM), a subsidiary of Tata Motors Limited and a leader in India’s electric vehicle (EV) revolution, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Rajasthan Solar Association (RSA) to enhance the promotion of electric vehicles and the use of solar energy for EV charging in Rajasthan.
This initiative comes as the Government of India has significantly advanced solar rooftop installations through the Prime Minister Surya Ghar Yojana, resulting in over 400,000 solar installations nationwide. The rise of electric vehicles combined with solar power allows consumers to drive without fuel costs and with zero emissions. Rajasthan ranks second among Indian states in terms of installed renewable energy capacity, which constitutes 20% of the state’s total power capacity. The capital city, Jaipur, also boasts one of the highest EV penetration rates in India.
The partnership between TPEM and RSA aims to accelerate solar adoption and electric mobility in the state, contributing to carbon reduction goals and promoting sustainability. Customers who have installed solar power systems at their residences or businesses will be eligible for additional discounts on the purchase of Tata EVs. RSA will manage the certification process, ensuring that eligible customers can access these discounts in Rajasthan, while also promoting the benefits of TPEM’s electric vehicle offerings throughout the state.
Mr. Balaje Rajan, Chief Strategy Officer of Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, stated, “Rooftop solar presents a unique opportunity for EV owners, offering the twin advantages of low-cost power and zero-emission mobility. Over 90% of EV customers charge at home, with nearly 30% already utilizing rooftop solar for home charging. This MoU with the Rajasthan Solar Association is a crucial step forward in democratizing zero-emission mobility.”
Mr. Nitin Agarwal, CEO of the Rajasthan Solar Association, added, “This collaboration will mark a revolutionary step in Rajasthan’s electric vehicle consumption, combining solar power with EVs. It represents a significant advancement in fostering green energy and reducing reliance on traditional fuels, marking a major milestone in Rajasthan’s journey towards a sustainable future.”
