Ford is releasing a new software update for its flagship electric vehicles, the F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E, aimed at enhancing EV navigation through a partnership with Google. This update introduces EV routing capabilities in Google Maps via Android Auto, providing customers with detailed trip planning tailored for electric vehicles.

Initially announced at CES 2024, the update is designed to improve route efficiency by displaying estimated battery levels upon arrival and suggesting convenient charging stops along the route. It also provides real-time information, estimating charging times to assist in trip planning. Notably, users can now view Tesla Supercharger locations compatible with Ford vehicles equipped with an adapter, making cross-brand charging more accessible. To further improve efficiency, the update includes enroute battery preconditioning when navigating to a DC fast charger, ensuring faster charging upon arrival.

The upgrade represents a step forward in Ford’s commitment to making EV ownership seamless. The integration allows Android Auto users to experience a Google-powered end-to-end EV routing solution. To activate this feature, drivers need to download the latest Google Maps update and connect it to Android Auto in their vehicle.

“We’re excited to work with Google to provide our customers with this streamlined EV routing experience,” Ford’s EV software team shared. This enhancement is part of Ford’s broader initiative to provide comprehensive digital support for electric vehicle owners, making EVs more convenient and road-trip ready than ever before.
