GM Energy, a subsidiary of General Motors, is making strides in the energy storage market with the introduction of the GM Energy PowerBank. Available in 10.6 kWh and 17.7 kWh variants, the PowerBank offers EV owners the ability to store energy, integrate with solar power systems, and power their homes during outages. The new product line aims to give consumers more control over their energy use by offering modular solutions that cater to diverse energy needs.
The GM Energy PowerBank is designed to help offset peak electricity rates, provide backup power during outages, and enable the storage of solar-generated energy. By connecting two 17.7 kWh PowerBanks, users can create up to 35.4 kWh of storage, sufficient to power an average American household for up to 20 hours.
“One of the core differentiators of GM Energy’s portfolio is its modularity,” said Wade Sheffer, Vice President of GM Energy. “The flexibility of our energy management tools, combined with one of the market’s largest lineups of vehicle-to-home-capable EVs, gives our customers more control over their energy use, helping to mitigate the impact of power outages, integrate renewable energy options, and unlock additional value.”
The PowerBank is available as part of the GM Energy Home System bundle, which includes a PowerShift charger and a Vehicle-to-Home Enablement kit. Customers with existing V2H systems can seamlessly add the PowerBank to their setup. Those integrating solar power will be referred to Qmerit, GM Energy’s preferred partner for site assessments and installation.
All GM Energy products, including the PowerBank, are managed through GM’s brand mobile apps, ensuring a user-friendly experience. The company has expanded the availability of these products across all 50 states, aiming to reach more customers seeking innovative energy solutions.
