VinFast, the Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer, has unveiled its comprehensive strategy for advancing sustainable e-mobility through cutting-edge battery technology. The company aims to remain at the forefront of the rapidly evolving automotive industry by focusing on vehicle optimization, forming strategic partnerships, and investing significantly in its facilities to enhance in-house expertise.

The automotive sector is witnessing rapid advancements in battery technology, particularly with lithium-ion batteries. VinFast is adopting a multi-faceted approach by integrating different battery chemistries, including lithium ferrous phosphate (LFP) and nickel manganese cobalt (NMC), each suited for specific applications. LFP is recognized for its thermal stability and longevity, making it a cost-effective choice for models where lifespan is prioritized. In contrast, NMC batteries offer higher energy density and faster charge times, making them ideal for larger vehicles requiring frequent charging.

To strengthen its battery technology capabilities, VinFast has partnered with industry leaders such as Gotion High-Tech for LFP technology, ProLogium for solid-state battery development, and StoreDot for extreme fast charging solutions. Additionally, the company has invested $173.7 million in the VinES Battery Manufacturing Facility in Vung Ang Economic Zone, with an initial production capacity of 100,000 battery packs per year.

Sustainability is a key concern for VinFast, which has taken steps to evaluate the environmental impact of its electrification efforts. The company signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Marubeni Corporation regarding the second use of batteries, emphasizing its commitment to eco-friendly practices.

VinFast’s latest models, the VF 6 and VF 8 eSUVs, reflect this commitment to sustainability. The VF 6 is equipped with a 59.6 kWh LFP battery, enabling a rapid DC charge from 10-70% in just 25 minutes and offering a range of up to 410 km on the WLTP cycle. This model is designed to optimize interior space within a compact 4.25-meter length, providing ample room for occupants.

The larger VF 8 eSUV targets a more premium market, featuring an 87.7 kWh NMC battery that charges from 10-100% in 8.7 hours at 11 kW AC and provides a driving range of up to 471 km on the WLTP cycle. The VF 8 is designed for performance, with a 0-100 km/h time of just 5.9 seconds in the twin-motor, all-wheel drive Eco model.

VinFast’s commitment to customer satisfaction is reflected in its robust aftersales service. The VF 6 comes with a seven-year, 160,000 km bumper-to-bumper warranty, while the traction battery is covered for eight years with unlimited kilometers. The VF 8 offers a 10-year, 200,000 km bumper-to-bumper warranty, ensuring peace of mind for buyers.

Through its innovative battery technology strategy and commitment to sustainability, VinFast is poised to lead the charge in the e-mobility revolution, positioning its customers at the forefront of advancements in the automotive industry.
