Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has announced an extended partnership with IONAGE, a leading eMobility service provider based in Bangalore, reinforcing their commitment to a sustainable future. This collaboration will ensure that all current and future BPCL electric vehicle (EV) chargers nationwide remain accessible through the IONAGE platform, significantly enhancing convenience for EV owners.

Founded in 2021, IONAGE has quickly established itself in the Indian eMobility sector, providing innovative solutions that empower both businesses and individual EV owners. The company aims to integrate a network of over 100,000 EV chargers onto its roaming platform by 2028, enabling more than 10,000 small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) to enter the EV charging market.

The partnership builds upon BPCL’s eDrive Initiative, launched in February 2022, which aims to create a seamless experience for customers utilizing BPCL’s extensive charging network. IONAGE’s platform currently aggregates chargers from various Charger Point Operators (CPOs), and the inclusion of BPCL chargers will enhance customer convenience by allowing users to access multiple CPO chargers through a single platform.

The agreement was signed by Mr. S. Kannan, Chief General Manager of Marketing, Retail, BPCL, and Mr. Vimal Kumar, Chief Executive Officer of IONAGE, in the presence of Mr. Pardeep Goyal, Business Head, Retail, BPCL.

Mr. Pardeep Goyal expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “We are thrilled to extend our partnership with IONAGE, a dynamic leader in the eMobility space, as part of our commitment to building a sustainable and accessible EV charging infrastructure across India. Customer accessibility and convenience are paramount for the utilization of charging infrastructure.”

Mr. Vimal Kumar added, “At IONAGE, our vision is to create a cohesive ecosystem that supports the needs of all electric vehicle owners and operators. This partnership with BPCL is a significant step towards making EV charging more accessible and reliable across India.”

Progress Towards 2030 Goals
India currently boasts 12,146 operational public charging stations, with Maharashtra and Delhi leading with 3,079 and 1,886 stations, respectively. This marks a remarkable growth of approximately 640% over the past two years, reflecting a rapidly expanding market. The Government of India’s goal of achieving 30% electrification of the automobile fleet by 2030 highlights the critical role of public charging stations in this transition.

IONAGE is aligned with the government’s vision, collaborating with a diverse range of partners, including Fortune 500 oil marketing companies, leading EV manufacturers, and brands such as MG Motors India and Exicom. The platform has successfully onboarded over 95,000 users, with around 15,000 monthly active users, demonstrating its growing popularity and utility.

In the near future, IONAGE aims to facilitate the installation of EV charging facilities in over 15,000 apartments in collaboration with key partners, significantly accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles in India.
