India’s electric vehicle (EV) market is seeing rapid growth, fueled by rising consumer interest and government incentives. A recent analysis by Justdial, India’s top local search engine, reveals a significant spike in EV-related searches from January 2023 to August 2024, with non-metro cities emerging as key drivers.

Justdial’s data shows that non-metro cities experienced a 141% increase in EV-related searches, compared to 71% growth in metro areas. Leading the pack was Indore, with a staggering 379% rise, followed by Patna (230%) and Surat (143%). Metro cities also saw notable increases, particularly Chennai (368%) and Kolkata (114%).

From January-August 2022 to January-August 2023, metro cities like Hyderabad saw searches grow by 8 times, while Ahmedabad, Bangalore, and Jaipur witnessed increases of 3, 2, and 2 times, respectively. However, the growth trend shifted in favor of non-metro regions in the following year.

The electric bikes-on-rent category saw the most substantial growth, with searches in Hyderabad skyrocketing by 1606%, while EV dealers nationwide reported a 151% rise in inquiries during the same period.

This surge in consumer interest highlights the expanding awareness and demand for cleaner mobility solutions across India, with both metro and non-metro cities playing a crucial role in driving the future of EV adoption.
