Ford has become the first automaker to participate in a groundbreaking program designed to reward electric vehicle (EV) owners for reducing energy consumption during peak grid demand. In collaboration with Olivine ClimateResponse VPP, Ford’s new California Power Response initiative will compensate Southern California customers who cut down on home energy usage during critical times.
Under the program, Ford EV owners can opt to pause their vehicle charging during periods when the state’s electric grid is under strain, earning $1 for every kilowatt-hour (kWh) they save. Customers retain control, with the option to override the pause if immediate charging is necessary. The program offers an additional incentive for customers already enjoying the benefits of home charging, encouraging a sustainable energy lifestyle and reducing stress on California’s grid.
Ford’s new initiative demonstrates its ongoing commitment to innovation and environmental sustainability, creating an opportunity for EV drivers to both support energy conservation and earn financial benefits.
