The Håkan Frisinger Foundation for Transportation Research has named Professor Johan Woxenius of the University of Gothenburg as this year’s recipient of the prestigious Håkan Frisinger Prize. Renowned for his work in Maritime Transport Management and Logistics, Woxenius will embark on a guest research program at Lund University as part of the award.
The Håkan Frisinger Prize, presented annually to a distinguished transport researcher in the Nordic region, recognizes Woxenius for his interdisciplinary research and collaborations that have yielded significant societal benefits, particularly in improving rail connections between container ports and surrounding regions. The prize includes a 300,000 SEK individual award and a 500,000 SEK grant for Lund University, where Woxenius will focus on sustainable freight transport research alongside Professor Henrik Pålsson and his team.
Lund University’s Faculty of Engineering, known for its expertise in packaging logistics, will host Woxenius. The research program will tackle key challenges in the interaction between urban and rural freight distribution and explore resilience in supply chains.
The award underscores Woxenius’ international reputation and his unique ability to simplify complex transport challenges for the public. The Håkan Frisinger Prize, named after the former CEO and Chairman of Volvo, is overseen by the Chalmers University of Technology and the Volvo Research and Educational Foundations (VREF).
