Ather Energy, a leading electric scooter manufacturer in India, has partnered with Google to provide real-time information on the availability of two-wheeler fast-charging stations. This collaboration will enable electric vehicle (EV) users to locate Ather Grid fast chargers on Google Maps, complete with live status updates, thereby making it easier for EV owners to find public charging stations. The initiative utilizes the Light Electric Combined Charging System (LECCS), the standard EV charging connector in India.
With this update, finding Ather fast-charging stations will be more accessible. Ather Grid fast-charging stations will now appear on Google Maps with live status updates, and newly installed chargers will be immediately listed on the platform.
LECCS Integration
LECCS is now recognized as a plug type on Google Maps, allowing users to set LECCS as their preferred connector. Consequently, searches for “EV charger near me” or “charging stations” will include chargers equipped with the LECCS connector.
“Ather Energy stated that this partnership enables any vehicle equipped with LECCS to easily find and use Ather Grid fast-charging stations.”
Ather Grid’s network of fast chargers for electric two-wheelers is based on the Light Electric Combined Charging System (LECCS), which has been approved by the Bureau of Indian Standards for nationwide use. Introduced last year, LECCS is seen as a key step towards establishing a universal standard through interoperability, encouraging wider adoption of electric vehicles in India.
As of March 30, 2024, Ather Energy has made 1,973 fast chargers publicly available, underscoring the company’s commitment to providing a seamless charging experience for its customers.
Technological Advancements
Ather Energy integrates several advanced technologies in its products, including a touch-screen dashboard, onboard navigation, fast charging for electric two-wheelers, a reverse mode, and a mobile app. Recently, Ather has incorporated popular consumer technologies like Google Maps navigation, Alexa skills, and WhatsApp notifications into its scooters.
“Ather’s integration with Google Maps is a testament to its commitment to driving innovation in the EV industry, reflecting its significant focus and investment in R&D since its founding in 2013.”
