In a pioneering move, Ford Motor Company has partnered with TXU Energy, Texas’ leading retail electric provider and subsidiary of Vistra, to unveil a unique retail energy offering tailored specifically for Ford electric vehicle (EV) owners in Texas. The new TXU Free EV Miles program provides Ford electric SUV and truck customers with the opportunity to charge their vehicles at home for free during designated hours, making it the first program of its kind in the state.

The initiative is designed to allow Ford EV owners to charge their vehicles for free between 7 p.m. and 1 p.m. the following day, a period during which approximately 80 percent of charging typically takes place at home. By offering a credit on their TXU Energy bill for all energy consumed during these hours, Ford and TXU Energy aim to encourage off-peak charging, thereby reducing stress on the electrical grid while promoting sustainable driving practices.

“Encouraging our electric vehicle customers to charge at off-peak hours through programs like Free EV Miles helps to save them money while supporting a more sustainable, resilient electrical grid,” said Bill Crider, senior director, global charging and energy services, Ford Motor Company. “Ford electric SUV and trucks already have lower operating and maintenance costs compared to gas-powered vehicles, and at-home charging offers additional financial perks and future vehicle-to-grid services never before possible, which Ford is committed to leading for our customers.”

This program is accessible to owners of the Ford F-150 Lightning, Mustang Mach-E, and Escape Plugin Hybrid, regardless of the home charging hardware they use. In addition to free charging, customers will receive a $100 welcome bonus from Ford and a $250 bonus from TXU Energy after remaining enrolled for a year.

“The partnership with Ford is a natural extension of TXU Energy’s broader strategy to educate customers on the benefits of EV ownership, remove barriers to switching, and enhance grid resiliency,” added Sam Sen, vice president of energy transition solutions for TXU Energy.
